Need more than three statement lines?

Collect up to a thousand statement lines instead.

The free template is limited to three rows so you can try the workflow. Create your own form when a client needs to send a whole statement, for an account without a bank feed or a period before the feed started.

How it works

From statement to Xero import in three steps.

01

Collect

Send the form to the client, or paste the statement lines in yourself.

02

Complete

Problems are highlighted on each row until every date and amount is right.

03

Download

Download the CSV, import it into the bank account in Xero, and match each column to a statement field.

Why use a form?

Bank exports aren't built for Xero.

Bank CSVs come with balance rows, mixed date formats, amounts with currency symbols and debits in separate columns. Each one can stop a Xero import or bring in wrong amounts.

A form produces the same clean layout every time, whoever fills it in.

Wrong date formats

Every date uses the same day-first format, ready for Xero.

Signs the wrong way round

Money out must be negative; the column explains it.

Junk rows and symbols

Only real statement lines with plain numbers make it into the file.

Xero bank statement template

Importing a bank statement into Xero

Xero can import bank statement lines from a CSV file when an account has no bank feed, or for transactions from before the feed started. In the import, you match each column in your file to a statement field. Column headings are optional, but named columns make that matching easier.

A clean file needs a date and an amount on every line, with money out as a negative number and no currency symbols. Use one date format throughout, in the order your Xero organisation uses. This template uses day-first dates, as organisations in the UK, Australia and New Zealand do. A payee, description and reference help Xero suggest matches when you reconcile.

Very large files can time out during the import. If that happens, split the statement into smaller files and import them one at a time.

Use this form to collect statement lines from a client, or paste them in yourself and let the checks catch problems first. If your organisation uses month-first dates, or you need extra columns such as a cheque number, create your own form with that setup.
