Why use a form?
Bank CSVs rarely arrive in QuickBooks' format.
Every bank exports CSV differently: extra columns, balance rows, dates with day names, amounts with currency symbols, debits and credits the wrong way round. QuickBooks only accepts its own 3- or 4-column layout.
A form produces that layout every time, whoever fills it in.
Mixed or wrong date formats
Every date must use one format. The form only accepts DD/MM/YYYY.
Signs the wrong way round
Money out must be negative. The column explains it on every row.
Symbols and text in amounts
£1,250.00 or 1,250 GBP are flagged; plain numbers export cleanly.

Uploading bank transactions to QuickBooks Online
When a bank account isn't connected to a bank feed, or you need transactions from before the feed started, QuickBooks Online lets you upload them from a CSV file. It accepts two layouts: three columns (Date, Description, Amount) or four (Date, Description, Credit, Debit). This template uses the three-column layout.
Intuit's rules are strict. Every date must be in one format, and Intuit recommends dd/mm/yyyy, with no day of the week. In the three-column layout, money out is a negative amount and money in is positive. Cells with a zero should be blank, and descriptions shouldn't be just numbers. Mac users need to save the file as a Windows CSV.
Credit card statements can come out reversed, with payments shown as negatives. When you upload one, choose the credit card account in QuickBooks rather than a bank account, and check a few transactions afterwards.
Use this form to collect transactions from a client, or paste a statement in yourself and let the checks catch problems before you upload. If you prefer separate Credit and Debit columns, create your own form with that layout.
